Project aims
Goals: The project aims to improve women's participation in peace-building by strengthening cooperation between security agencies, Community leaders, and women.
Project description
Women are critical actors in Mtwara conflict dynamics. Due to real and perceived social, economic, and political marginalization, Women have increasingly turned to non-peaceful forms of engagement to influence decisions that affect their lives. Power inequalities between women and government, traditional and faith leaders; the under-representation of women in decision-making structures, uneven distribution of resources, patriarchal values and traditions; fixed gender roles, and less access in decision-making, the consortium will use the project to improve women's participation in peacebuilding matters by strengthening cooperation, and bridge communication gap, and increase understanding between government authorities, security agents, faith leaders, women, and communities. The project will engage 45 women peace champions from Mtwara District in Tanzania, fostering dialogue, empathy, and collaboration among conflicting parties by employing a people-to-people peacebuilding strategy. Through training and capacity-building programs, it will equip young women with the skills necessary to participate effectively in peacebuilding efforts. Additionally, the TASA will raise awareness among the broader community about women's involvement in peacebuilding, utilizing public forums, educational campaigns, and media outreach.
