Project aims
Autonomous Youth Camp is a political education project for youth to meet, network, skillshare and strategise around political autonomy and struggles for collective liberation.
Project description
We're holding a nine day camp in Manchester which we hope will be attended by 150 people. We hold summer camps annually, and also winter gatherings to plan and organise for the next summer. We have previously held a four day camp in Sheffield in 2022 attended by 60 people, and a seven day camp in Coventry in 2023 attended by 100 people.
The summer camps take place in a field where all participants contribute to creating and running our collectively held space, including cooking, cleaning and running workshops. Our timetables contain political talks, workshops, skillshares, and social activities.
Workshops and discussion groups take place on a huge range of topics, with attendees encouraged to run sessions.
This year, sessions will be focused around the following key themes: care, internationalism, youth liberation, anti-fascism and revolutionary thought. This will materialise through skill sharing, educational sessions on historic social movements, as well as political theory and philosophy. Throughout the camp, time will be given to discussions on how we can take our learnings and energies back into our lives beyond camp. This is not just a fun, festival camp but hopefully a meaningful educational development in participants’ lives.
