Project aims
To enhance innovative and impactful initiative aimed at combating drug use and engaging idle youths through beach monitoring. It addresses the pressing issue of drug abuse while simultaneously providing productive opportunities for young individuals in environmental conservation.
Project description
BeachGuard is a comprehensive program designed to combat drug use and provide meaningful engagement for idle youths. The program's key components include:
Youth Engagement: We will recruit and train local youths to serve as Beach Monitors. They will patrol designated beach areas, promoting community safety, and acting as positive role models. Beach patrols will include data collection on stranded sea turtles, dead sea turtles which will be buried. Beach cleanups will also be conducted during patrols.
Educational Workshops: We will conduct regular workshops on drug prevention, life skills, and personal development to empower these young individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed choices. These will be intertwined with filed activities like beach patrols and team building activities.
Mentorship and Counseling: A team of experienced mentors and counsellors will be available to provide guidance and support for the participating youths. This will be from local partners involved in combating drug use and environmental conservation like Bahari hai CBO and A-Rocha Kenya.
Community Awareness: BeachGuard will collaborate with local law enforcement agencies like KWS and the Kenya Police, Primary and Secondary schools, as well as community organizations to create a network of support and awareness about the program's objectives.
