Project aims
Empower teen mothers in Vingunguti, Dar es Salaam, by providing entrepreneurial training, financial literacy, and social support, enabling them to achieve financial independence, break the cycle of poverty, and foster social integration within their community.
Project description
The Binti Kinara Project is a 12-month initiative aimed at empowering adolescent mothers in Vingunguti, Dar es Salaam, an informal settlement where poverty, limited education, and economic exclusion are widespread. These young women, often forced to drop out of school due to pregnancy, face significant challenges, including social stigma, isolation, and lack of access to financial resources. The project seeks to break the cycle of poverty and dependency by equipping these adolescent mothers with essential skills and resources. The project focuses on three core areas: entrepreneurial training, financial literacy, and social support. Participants will receive training to start and manage small businesses, enabling them to generate sustainable income. Seed funding will be provided, and a table banking scheme will be established, allowing participants to save, borrow, and invest collectively, promoting financial inclusion and resilience. In addition to economic empowerment, the project aims to enhance the social well-being of these young mothers by building a supportive community network and addressing the stigma surrounding adolescent motherhood. By fostering confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of agency, the Binti Kinara Project will create lasting change, improving the livelihoods of participants and contributing to a more inclusive and supportive community in Vingunguti.
