Project aims
To improve the experiences of Black men in the UK in mental health services by addressing racial disparities and informing policy decision-making through collaboration, research, and stakeholder engagement.
Project description
The project aims to enhance the experiences of Black men in mental health services by addressing and mitigating racial disparities in access, treatment, and outcomes. Recognizing the historical and societal prejudices, the project seeks to improve regulatory decision-making and public awareness. Key objectives include collecting large-scale feedback from Black men through public engagement, interviews, and case studies; reviewing past regulatory actions and current data on racial disparities; and collaborating with stakeholders such as Rethink Mental Illness. The project will also involve an internal review of the Commission for Quality of Care processes and methodologies to ensure they effectively address inequalities. Additionally, the project will focus on improving data collection, developing new tools and guidance for CQC staff, and producing independent reports to inform strategic improvements. The project encompasses phases including a literature review, data gap analysis, and co-production of thematic reviews. Engagement with other regulatory bodies and external research will further support the project's goals. Ultimately, the project seeks to foster integrated care systems and local authorities' accountability, promoting equitable mental health care for Black men.
