To promote environmentally responsible banking by certifying businesses that bank with green financial institutions. It encourages transparency, empowers consumers to support sustainable businesses, and drives a shift in banking practices away from fossil fuel financing.
Project description
At Bank.Green, our mission is to shift financial institutions towards greener lending practices by empowering their customers to advocate for change. We empower bank customers with the tools and insights they need to influence banks towards sustainable lending, driving progress toward a greener future. Our business accreditation scheme will help businesses that bank sustainably to promote their commitment to their customers. Eye-catching in-shop accreditation materials, coupled with digital QR codes, will link customers to more information on our website, highlighting both the business and their bank’s green credentials. The website will also feature a dynamic map showcasing the locations of other green-banking businesses across the UK, encouraging consumers to support like-minded organisations. We expect to accredit approximately 2,800 businesses each year, with the project becoming self-sustaining through annual accreditation fees. Any of the UK’s 5.51 million businesses that bank with institutions rated highly by our methodology will be eligible to apply. By collaborating with the 16 business-serving institutions we rate as environmentally responsible, we will accredit their business clients. This recognition will create competitive pressure on banks heavily investing in fossil fuels, encouraging them to divest swiftly to avoid losing business customers to more ethical institutions.
