Promote and protect the rights and welfare of people in exile. Also save lives through emergency response.
Project description
In the France-UK border zone there are around 2,000 displaced people at any time. This includes refugees, forced migrants, escapees of forced labour and victims of human trafficking. They cannot secure their basic needs or access information about their rights. 25% of the population are women and children.
Calais Appeal is a consortium of seven independent charities. They share a warehouse of office spaces, and built the coalition in order to share resources and be stronger united.
Activities include;
Saving lives by responding to shipwrecks on the coast and various phone calls for help / 6,000 people a year
Providing WiFi, phone-charging and sim cards and referrals to legal support / 20,000 people a year
Hot and dry food distributions improving nutrition / over a million a year
Providing drinking water and campaigning the State to provide it instead / 3,000 litres of water a day
Camping tents distribution or finding people shelter / 30,000 people a year
Medical support through transport and translators, especially for pregnant women / 400 people a year
Informal education for children to assist with their development / 800 kids a year
