Project aims
Development of 5 Child Friendly Villages in Rural Areas of Gujarat State, India, with improved cognitive, emotional and interpersonal life skills amongst children and child-friendly guidelines, models and mechanisms in villages.
Project description
A Child-Friendly Village is a unique preventive model of children and youth empowerment and village development that protects children from trafficking, child labour, child marriages, substance abuse, any form of physical, mental, emotional or sexual abuse/ exploitation, violence and discrimination by ensuring their rights, wellbeing and voices are central to the village community.
In Child Friendly villages, the local Gram Panchayat (Local Governance system) will be facilitated to listen to children’s opinions and needs, hold a special meets to discuss issues related to children and make provisions for holistic development of children. All village level bodies such as The Village Child Protection Committee, School Management Committee, Mother’s groups of children are made fully functional and operational.
In Short, in the child friendly villages, the children will play an active role and adult duty bearers will ensure availability of safe and conducive space is developed for and with children. This is a long-term process and needs sustained and tireless efforts.
