Project aims
To bring more visibility to the need for activist compensation for their expertise and experience speaking and messaging, to support activist livelihoods and develop more inclusive and responsive approaches to funding climate justice for both activists and funders alike.
Project description
The Climate Activist Speaker Fund was officially launched in March 2023 as a pilot programme with the aim of testing a new mechanism for supporting young climate activists who identify as MAPA (most affected peoples and areas) to access and deliver critical climate messaging to key audiences while also being duly compensated for their time and expertise. In doing so, we sought to amplify narratives around activist inclusion and livelihoods and engage the philanthropic community, particularly those already shifting their sights toward activism and climate justice but facing certain regulatory barriers that restricted their giving. Designed by and for youth activists, we seek to provide flexible and unrestricted financial support to a dynamic group of young activists across the world and to support them to strengthen their messaging and amplify their reach in ways that are most vital to their communities. The CASF has just currently come to the end of a successful and insightful pilot year full of rich learning together with our pilot activist cohort. We seek to build on these learnings and grow this work into a second phase, focusing on ensuring this support and be made more redistributive and accessible across the movement.
