Project aims
Our charity works with adults, who find communicating with others, and understanding the world around them, a significant challenge. We aim to reduce loneliness and improve the quality of life, for people with profound learning disabilities and complex needs.
Project description
We are asking for support for our “Connecting Lives and Reducing Isolation” Project. This is an ongoing core costs project for funding to help us bridge the gap between what we charge for each session verses what it costs us to provide the session to ensure that we can keep them assessable to those we support.
Our teams deliver around 43 weekly sessions, visiting 122 people, throughout Surrey. Our Interaction Practitioners provide a 60-minute session, with each person receiving focused time of their own, as well being supported to join the group theme in order to experience sociability.
The people we support are all adults; the majority have no words and have sensory impairments, they are considered ‘difficult to reach’ and often live in extreme isolation.
Our aim with each person is to increase their confidence and willingness to engage with others by creating opportunities for them to connect and fully express themselves and to convey the message ‘you are good to be with’.
We build lines of communication that do not require language, creating connections that improve quality of life. We believe that everyone deserves to feel heard and valued.
