Project aims
To improve relationships with nature in the UK by deepening ecological understanding and increasing engagement with conservation. These factors are critical for improving pro-environmental behaviour, policy and business practice. We focus on the Curlew and wildlife sharing its habitats.
Project description
The UK is of international importance to the Eurasian Curlew, which was once a common sight here but has declined by 50% over the last 25 years, and in some areas has stopped breeding entirely. A combination of changes in farming, shifts in land-management practices and high predation pressure are causing the Curlew to fade from our landscape. These challenges are closely linked to the people and policies that control the land. Without public engagement and education, the Curlew will fall completely silent and along with it many of the species that share their habitats. We inform and engage the public about nature through advocacy, supporting conservation efforts, engaging with science and policy, and improving natural history education. Curlew conservation touches many aspects of UK life, from dog walking and farming to forestry and our built environment. Our current outreach work aims to bridge the gap between all those who have a role to play in protecting our landscape, by connecting them through webinars, newsletters, competitions, and talks and events both in-person and online. We are seeking funding of £8-12,000 to help us protect native wildlife through our impactful outreach channels. Please contact alex@curlewaction.org to discuss.
