Project aims
To establish an Ecological Park which offers the general public a recreation, learning and reflection space within Ndola and also contributes to environmental sustainability through the preservation of the ecosystem within the water source area.
Project description
The Copperbelt Museum intends to develop an Ecological park at the plot earmarked for the development of the Mining Museum of Zambia. The Ecological Park is envisaged to have thatched grass houses which will be constructed using local materials and will serve as resting places for the public. Mini-conference centres will be constructed away from the stream and these structures will serve as meeting places. The mini-conference centres will have names of local traditional leaders found on the Copperbelt Province. Several walk-ways will be constructed in the Eco-park. Some of these will be constructed over the stream to avoid visitors stepping on the stream, thereby preserving and protecting it. On the ground, concrete walk ways will be constructed that will crisscross across the Eco-park to protect the stream and the ecosystem. The Eco-park has a source of a stream and some fish species thrive in the stream. Fish ponds will be constructed around the stream with the intent of protecting the fish. Herbal plants and edible plants will be introduced in the Eco-park and these will enhance the plant biodiversity of the area. The herbal garden will serve as repository of medicinal plants.
