Project aims
We run a two year employability programme for survivors of modern slavery to support them in rebuilding their lives after exploitation in the sex industry and forced labour and to gain skills and qualifications ready for the mainstream workplace.
Project description
We partner with modern slavery and anti-human trafficking charities such as Hope for Justice and The Medaille Trust to receive referrals of individuals recovering from exploitation in modern slavery. Working closely with their case worker, we welcome men and women into our ice cream cafe where we pay them the National Living Wage for two years whilst they complete training in the hospitality industry including front of house, baking and food preparation as well as best practice in the workplace. On completion of our two year course we support the individuals to move on into mainstream employment. We are seeing tremendous results with skills learnt, qualifications gained, fresh starts opening up and lives transformed. We are seeking funding towards the wages, travel and training costs of additional trainees.
