The project's background lies in Zambia's pressing challenges related to food insecurity, poverty, and the escalating impacts of climate change. Zambia, like many other countries, faces erratic weather patterns, prolonged droughts, and extreme weather events, all of which threaten agricultural productivity, livelihoods, and food access, particularly among rural communities. These challenges exacerbate existing vulnerabilities, leaving vulnerable populations struggling to cope with the adverse effects of climate change. In response to these challenges, the project seeks to address the root causes of food insecurity and poverty by implementing holistic interventions that build resilience, empower communities, and promote sustainable development. Drawing on the principles of climate-smart agriculture, traditional ecological knowledge, and gender and youth empowerment, the project aims to equip communities with the tools, resources, and skills needed to adapt to changing climatic conditions, diversify their livelihoods, and improve their overall well-being. By addressing the intersecting challenges of food security, poverty, and climate change, the project aims to contribute to Zambia's efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to ending hunger, promoting sustainable agriculture, and reducing inequality.
