Project aims
Move towards economic justice by creating financial stability for local individuals and families. We work with people to address the root causes of their money issues, empowering them to break free from the cycle of poverty.
Project description
Our clients are from some of the most deprived and marginalised communities in Bristol. We are based in Lawrence Hill, the ward Bristol City Council identified as most at risk from the impacts of the ongoing Cost of Living crisis. We provide specialist advice and practical support to people on a 1-1 basis to resolve their money issues by reducing debt, maximising income and building financial resilience. Our 8 advisers have combined experience of over 110 years and work in a relational, person-centred way. Advisers take time to fully understand people’s circumstances and what is important to them; they then work with clients, building on their capability and strengths to achieve longer-term financial security . "Nobody has ever looked at the bigger picture before, they just want to concentrate on one area and send you away, so thank you." Our organisational reputation and strong partnerships with other local advice agencies enable us to influence systemic change, tackling the barriers that keep people in poverty. We work collectively to influence how organisations such as the local council, GP surgeries and creditors operate and interact with people. This directly helps our clients and creates a wider positive impact for whole communities.
