Project aims
We support resilience and sustenance through the provision of nutritious meals and cooking training.
We aim to address the most basic needs of displaced and homeless people whilst simultaneously creating opportunities for skills development, inclusion, and participation in the community.
Project description
Firstly, we act in solidarity with people who have limited or no access to food. In our professional kitchen (licence no. 1263267) we cook meals for displaced and homeless fellow-citizens of Athens. We prepare 4000 meals per month, which we distribute onsite and from other locations in collaboration with eight partner organisations.
Our meals are planned with care and creativity by our kitchen team, made up of staff and volunteers from the local and refugee community. Our goal is not only to respond to basic nutritional needs, but also to represent the culinary traditions of different countries of origin as well as Greek cuisine. This fusion symbolises the community we want to foster.
In parallel, our Cooking Training Programmes offers free education for those who cannot afford fees to enter the culinary industry. Graduates are trained as Commis Chef Cs and certified by ACTA- a Spin-off of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Following graduation, we work with organisations for participants to develop their CVs and for job-linking opportunities.
Additionally, we offer cooking workshops for unaccompanied minors to learn the basics of cooking and hopefully spark their enthusiasm for cooking and a career in the industry - a key industry within Greece.
