Project description
Project Title: From Persecution to Limbo: The Hazara's Struggle for Survival
The Hazara people, a historically persecuted ethnic and religious minority in Afghanistan, have faced a relentless campaign of violence and discrimination. Many are forced to flee, seeking a future free from persecution. Currently, about 8000 Hazara migrants including women, elders, and children are trapped in Indonesia and Malaysia - most of them since 2014, languishing in limbo without basic rights or a path to resettlement. These migrants are victims of a multi-layered failure. Their dire situation stems from the Taliban's ruthless targeting of Hazaras alongside institutionalized discrimination within Afghanistan that pushed them to seek refuge abroad. The international community's failure to adequately address their plight has fueled a devastating mental health crisis within this vulnerable community.
This project directly addresses this humanitarian crisis faced by Hazara migrants. It combines carefully targeted research, immediate aid provisions, and urgent advocacy to break the cycle of despair and secure a sustainable future for this persecuted group.
This project combines research, practical assistance, and targeted advocacy to achieve both short-term relief and a long-term path towards safety and dignity for the persecuted Hazara community.
