Project aims
Connecting our 200 local Refill communities with their local rivers, highlighting the urgent need to protect our waterways, including tackling sewage and single-use plastic pollution through scaling tried and tested solutions for individuals to take river action in their communities.
Project description
**OPPORTUNITY TO MATCH-FUND – DONATIONS DOUBLED DURING LAST TWO WEEKS OF APRIL**. City to Sea, the UK’s leading charity focused on plastic pollution, is participating in the Big Give this month. We be hugely grateful if the NFSC would support us during this campaign and have twice the impact!
Single-use packaging from food and drink items make up over half of all litter found in our rivers and on our beaches. 80% of plastic pollution travels via our rivers, affecting river communities and wildlife along the way. Here in the UK, only 14% of rivers in England are in good ecological health and none are in good chemical health. Our reliance on single-use plastics (and still flushing wipes and period products down the loo!) is adding unnecessary strain to these already struggling eco systems.
City to Sea has already stopped more than 60 million single-use plastic water bottles from ending up in our rivers and oceans thanks to our award-winning Refill campaign. With funding, we can train and empower over 200 communities to take action on rivers where they live, helping to restore and protect our local waterways, whilst stopping plastic pollution at source, for good.
