Project aims
To champion, strengthen and protect the UK’s inspirational National Trails and enable more people - especially those who traditionally face barriers to accessing nature - to use them as a gateway to the great outdoors.
Project description
National Trails UK (NTUK) is the independent champion of the UK’s designated National Trails, an inspirational 6000-mile network of long-distance routes that allows millions of people to explore the nations’ spectacular habitats and unique heritage. National Trails offer valuable health, environmental, cultural, and economic benefits and give people a chance to connect to nature, connect to their place, and connect to each other. But rising costs, climate change and reduced funding threaten the network's sustainability, with staff and volunteers struggling to secure the necessary resources to keep these routes open, accessible and nature-rich. NTUK brings together the family of National Trails, so they can be stronger together and deliver more for people and nature. • We advocate for National Trails to have a strengthened legislative basis and better funding • We enhance the benefits that the National Trails bring to people and place • We inspire more people - especially those who traditionally face barriers to accessing nature - to use the National Trails as a gateway to the great outdoors. As a new charity it's vital that we secure core funding to support the National Trails. £10,000 would cover 5% of our total core costs for a full year.
