Project aims
Indigenous-led organization, People’s Planet Project works with communities in the world's most vulnerable biodiversity hotspots, including the Amazon, Leuser ecosystem, and Pacific coral triangle.
Project description
People’s Planet Project combines Indigenous-led storytelling with a variety of technologies to create evidence-based stories that can be used as evidence in court and for advocacy campaigns - all with the aim to safeguard forests and biodiversity. For this particular application, we would be looking for support in kick starting a project in Sumatra, Indonesia, to create Sumatra's first female and LGBTQIA+ led Indigenous green belt: A collective of discriminated womxn who would be equipped to map, document, and capture the untold stories across the Leuser ecosystem, and use them in court to attain land titles and access to female-led land management for the Batak peoples and beyond. We are also searching for support for an ongoing collaboration with the Lovongai community In Papua New Guinea's north west islands - where the entire island is at risk of an earmarked mining project, set to attain an exploration license in a 2026. We have two years to equip this green belt of Indigenous GIS analysts and filmmakers to attain their land titles and the legal ability to self-manage their land.
