Project aims
To equip trade union and social movement activists in Northern Ireland with the tools to make sense of a changing world
Project description
Trademark Belfast emerged out of the context of the Northern Ireland conflict and peace process, offering a trade union response to the problems of sectarianism, racism and unfinished peacebuilding in communities suffering from deprivation and segregation. Since the 2008 financial crash, Trademark has been delivering political education with trade unions, social movements and community organisations. This has focused on promoting an understanding of the global economic and geopolitical order, and linking systemic trends to the everyday struggles of those at the coalface. We are proposing to design and deliver an education programme to equip grassroots activists with the tools to understand the systemic factors driving climate breakdown, economic crisis, geopolitical conflict, migration and the rise of the far right. The programme will also support participants to articulate this political economy analysis within the particular context of Northern Ireland. This will involve: - The design of new educational resources based on cutting edge analysis and an updated understanding of global macro trends. - The delivery of at least 10 one-day political education schools in community venues across Northern Ireland. - Ongoing mentoring to support continued learning and connect this with organising efforts. * We already have no fewer than 5 requests from relevant groups/collectives.
