Project aims
Our aim is to empower diverse young girls in Nakawa to become frontline fighters for climate change by providing them with knowledge, skills, and a platform for active engagement and establish the Green Girls Academy post Card Campaign.
Project description
Our community is largely dependent on agriculture and natural resources. These form the basis of existence for around 90% of its population, most of whom live in rural areas. The average Ugandan household consists of six people, and growth in agricultural productivity cannot keep pace with the high rate of population growth. This density causes a shortage of land, which in turn leads to over-exploitation of forests and soil degradation, and the destruction of ecosystems accelerated by over-grazing.
In Uganda, young girls, especially those from diverse backgrounds, lack adequate awareness and empowerment to actively participate in the fight against climate change. Limited access to education on environmental issues and the absence of a platform for their involvement hinder their potential contribution to mitigating the impact of global warming.
Girls Academy post Card Campaign to educate, empower, and inspire young girls in Nakawa Division.
This will be achieved through conducting workshops in 5 schools across different communities of Nakawa division in Kampala to educate and empower 100 diverse girls on climate change issues.
Through the postcard campaign teach girls how to create informative postcards about climate change.
Distribute these postcards to diverse girls in different schools, fostering a sense of solidarity and shared responsibility.
