Grid Connection Heron Mill
Project Host
Heron Corn Mill (Beetham) Ltd
Revenue
£188709
Charity Number

Project aims
To connect a hydropower turbine to the grid, as it provides the main core income for a listed working watermill and thriving community hub.
Project description
Heron Corn Mill in south Cumbria is a working Grade II* listed watermill, there is also a thriving community hub on site, serving various rural scattered hamlets and villages. In 2010 a hydropower turbine was installed to create a core income for the charity, and more recently a retro-fit automatic screen cleaner has improved income. It is the only substantial income the Charity has. Currently the hydropower turbine is connected to a local business, but this business is failing and we need to secure a grid connection urgently, otherwise the whole project could fail. This would result in the loss of specific activity for the elderly, people with dementia, teenagers and youth clubs. The cost overall for grid connection is £250k.
