Project aims
To have a stronger community and stakeholders voice that will advocate for the ‘‘Legal and Enabling Framework to Safeguard the Human Rights of PLHIV under National HIV/AIDS Act2017, for improved ‘Quality Health Services and Social Security Schemes’.
Project description
India’s population 1.4b, with 2.4M PLHIV, nearly 1.0M are women/girls, with lots of misconceptions/taboos surrounding HIV. If men are still young, indulge in high-risk behavior and get infected with HIV/AIDS, that’s the general story of society. If woman gets this, no one would like to get close to her, because it is a problem of her conduct/behavior. The effects of both can be even worse for groups who already marginalized due to gender/their HIV status. HIV stigma/discrimination continue to undermine prevention, treatment and care of PLHIV, is more pronounced among women/girls. It hinders their openness with their partners about their status and threatens their access to health care. HIV care providers are equally stigmatized in terms of social discredit/devaluation impacting on their HIV care/treatments services. This results into high-risk sexual behavior's, reduced diagnosis and suboptimal uptake of ART. This project is designed to achieve above stated aim which will be achieved by establishing ‘District/State Level Task Forces’, involving PLHIV Networks/Leaders, NGOs/CSOs, Advocates/HIV Care Providers. Task forces will engage with policy/decision makers at different levels, ensuring that a significant/sustainable change will be made in health settings and capacity building of PLHIV, so as to achieve equitable health-social justice to all.
