Project aims
To support people experiencing discrimination due to their HIV status, commonly at work, in healthcare settings, in public or private services.
Project description
We're seeking funding to increase the hours of our HIV discrimination caseworker to full-time, so she can take on more cases and extend the reach of the advice service. Our free HIV discrimination advice service is currently very in-demand, with an increasing number of cases coming in as the reputation of the service grows, and soon we will have to start turning cases away if we cannot find funding to increase the hours to full-time. The service provides a safe and confidential place for people living with HIV to come to for advice, achieves a positive outcome for them in 80% of resolved cases, and tells us where the issues are so we know where to focus our policy work on a national level to tackle HIV discrimination and stigma. It is the only service of its kind in the UK. There are over 100,000 people living with HIV in the UK and many of these people will experience some form of discrimination during their life. When that happens, we will be there for them. We would like to make this service full-time from October 2024 for a trial period, dependent on funding, and we hope that a member of the Network for Social Change will want to sponsor our project.
