Project aims
The project’s aim is to educate and enable students, young people, and teachers in the FE sector, through human rights education and capacity-building, to be active leaders and create youth groups in their own communities to defend their rights.
Project description
AIUK worked with five schools and colleges across the nation (Leeds College; Mablethorpe College (CLIP); Dixons Sixth Form; Noadswood School and Southam College), 32 students actively participated in the pilot. Following the pilot project, AIUK in partnership with the schools/FE sector in 2023 to engage a diverse and wider group of young people in human rights education activities. The proposed Youth Coaches project aims to build long-term partnerships with the FE sector in the UK by training the FE teachers to become Amnesty Group Leaders and AIUK Student Activists (from universities) to become Youth Activism Coaches. The trained teachers and students will support FE students to form youth groups within the FE sector and to create changes in their communities and lead effective campaigns. The project engages with the under-represented youth to make change in their local communities and become a part of a youth movement to take community-led actions that promote equality and justice. Outputs: 1) AIUK Student Activists and FE Teachers have improved understanding of delivering rights respecting coaching sessions to young people. 2)Newly established youth groups have the tools and knowledge to actively engage with human rights issues in their communities.
