Project aims
To increase access to quality HIV prevention, care and treatment services to at-risk men, women and children in Yei River County of South Sudan
Project description
Over the years, the HIV response in South Sudan has often been disrupted and the people’s vulnerability to HIV increased by the constant conflicts, human displacements and service disruption. According to UNAIDS, the HIV epidemic in South Sudan is categorized as low and generalized (2.7%) with pockets of concentration among various key and vulnerable populations. In addition, out of the over 200,000 people estimated to be living with HIV, a majority do not know their HIV status while only 18% are on antiretroviral therapy. A majority of the PLHIV on treatment are women while men and children constitute just a small proportion. There is, therefore, an urgent need to expand the access to HIV prevention, care and treatment services in the country to ensure early identification of people living with HIV (PLHIV), increase access to HIV treatment services, ensure clients are retained on treatment and they are virally suppressed. There is an urgent need to increase the proportion of PLHIV in the country who know their HIV status, are initiated on Antiretroviral Therapy while still asymptomatic and retained on treatment to achieve viral suppression.
