Streetwise Opera

We are a cutting-edge charity that uses the many facets of opera to enable people with experience of homelessness to find empowerment while they rebuild their lives. We engage world-class artists to co-create radical new opera productions with up to 300 individuals each year. Our 2024-25 project, Nature is being shaped by the participants at each stage. From September–March, participants in our regular sessions and frontline homelessness settings will co-create new productions in response to nature. Our participants want to share their creations as widely as possible and to create pop-up performances in unexpected places to engage audiences who might not have experienced opera before. In March, both groups will perform as a collective in public places that reflect nature, with the aim of encouraging participants in frontline settings to join our regular sessions, sustaining the project’s impact. We aim to make the project carbon neutral by following the Theatre Green Book principles.
