Project aims
This Major Project grant would enable New Internationalist to develop and scale-up our regular international environmental and social justice coverage, building on our 50-year track record of in-depth independent journalism for progressive change; deepening our impact.
Project description
As international solidarity grows with Palestine, Sudan and Congo; people take to the streets of Kenya and Bangladesh to demand economic justice and deeper democracy; and resistance to imperialism grows on every continent, it’s an important time for in-depth, progressive, internationalist journalism that joins the dots between common root causes – and common solutions. This project will build on New Internationalist’s trailblazing track-record in this area, building links between our readers in the UK and social movements around the world. This would be a transformational grant to allow us to develop our digital coverage – with a focus on more podcast and video content – as well as ensure our signature in-depth article are more well resources. We know our journalism sends out ripples of change, giving readers the tools they need to make change, either organizing alternatives‘from below’, or pushing for change ‘from above’. More than two-thirds of New Internationalist’s readers say they have did something differently as a result of what they read in the magazine. This grant would enable us to scale-up and reach more people at a time where alternative income streams are essential for independent media, especially when working to keep pace with the changing landscape.
