Project aims
Parent Power empowers parents in a local area to work collectively to campaign against educational inequalities and create positive change for their children and local community, by training them in community organising.
Project description
We know that university education changes lives, by promoting upward social mobility and improving the economic prospects of individuals and communities, but access to the most competitive universities, and the opportunities that come with attending them, is not equal.
We see parental engagement as a key element of systems change in Higher Education access, however, there are large inequalities in access to higher education information and resources.
Parent Power is a unique parental engagement model run in partnership with Citizens UK, targeted at those who face barriers to navigating the university admissions system due to a lack of knowledge, experience or confidence.
The Parent Power model has been tested in cities, towns and rural areas across England and Wales and, in each case, it has successfully benefited local communities, building confidence and knowledge around higher education.
Now is a critical time for funding as we scale the Parent Power movement to 35 chapters by 2026, and build a community of parents focused on creating change at a national and systemic level. Our vision is to build a sustained, cross-UK parent and carer community of over 1000 parent leaders.
