Revenue
£2.8 million

Project aims
Particularly vital with the planned early release of offenders- reduces future re-offending by providing comprehensive person-centred support, housing assistance, employability support, and work experience, to achieve meaningful rehabilitation critical transition into the community. Funding required for nine-month period during 2024.
Project description
The early release of thousands of prisoners over the coming months makes our project more vital than ever. Aspire has run Through The Gate (TTG) for ten years, working intensively with 200 prison leavers each year. We engage with offenders from HMP Bullingdon and recent offenders in Oxfordshire, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, and High Wycombe. Our experienced support workers deliver vital rehabilitation at a critical transition stage. Despite the Police and Crime Commissioner's office recognising our impact, funding will end in October 2024 due to budget constraints. This is critical given the recent early release policy increasing the number of prison leavers without adequate housing or support. The Ministry of Justice will commission a new national model for prison leaver rehabilitation in November 2025, introducing a 'Navigator' caseworker role. Aspire's current model, proven in Thames Valley Restart, aligns with this new approach. We urgently need funding from February 2025 - October 2025 to avoid the risk of a significant support gap opening up and hundreds of prison leavers missing out on vital rehabilitation support. Funding is secure until end of January 2025, and we anticipate future support from the Community Rehabilitation Service from November 2025.
