Project aims
To develop accessible and community-led arts installations with a group of 20+ residents, envisioning the sustainable kitchens and corner shops of the future. These installations will be anchor points for decolonial grassroots campaigns advocating for local food justice.
Project description
Building on three years of movement-building and participatory research by local group ‘The Blueprint Architects’ and rooted in collective wisdom from our latest publication Recipes for a Revolution, we are ready for our next step: translating our blueprint for a community-led food system into large-scale arts installations that can inspire and change more hearts and minds. The final installations will be held in accessible locations to reach wider audiences with our powerful ‘Recipes for a Revolution’ using a mix of photography, soundscapes, and performance. We want to bring more people together around the possibility of radically transforming our food economy through deepening collaboration between local institutions such as community gardens, schools, food co-ops and peri-urban farms. The aims of this project are:
To resource local people with first-hand experience of food injustice in Tower Hamlets to tell stories on their own terms
To advocate and campaign for community-led solutions to the food and climate crisis through decolonial care, solidarity and redistribution.
To grow momentum and gather more people to join existing food justice movements and local projects in Tower Hamlets while supporting people from BPOC and diasporic backgrounds to take ownership of existing spaces + create their own.
