Project aims
To host a 2-day Redistribution Festival in September, bringing together a network of about 60 people organising around wealth redistribution in the UK. This festival will enable us to continue supporting each-other and continue developing a shared vision and strategy.
Project description
We attended workshops by the Class Work Project and went on to form wealth redistribution groups in Leeds, Glasgow, and Cambridge. These are mixed-class groups aiming to address wealth inequality in a direct way. People give up their money, inheritance, and trust funds to a collective pot. Funds are then transferred to those without access to wealth, as well as groups who are working for similar social and structural change. Together, we've already redistributed over £100,000. This festival would bond our network more, enable us to continue supporting each other and facilitate further growth. The first day is working class only, discussing what our ideal redistribution group looks like, where we’d like to be in a few years time, and obstacles coming up doing cross-class organising. The second day is mixed-class, we'll strategise our next steps as a network. We'll also hold structured conversations about how it feels to do this work, as an opportunity to revitalise our intentions. We've created a detailed budget and are looking for £15,000 to cover accommodation, meeting space and facilitation. Importantly, this money also allows us to pay the travel, childcare, and missed-work expenses for all working class people attending.
