Project aims
Your support would enable our trusted partner IMPACT Bangladesh to build a SIDKO Water Treatment Plant to provide safe water for a girl’s school in rural Bangladesh, benefitting approximately 1,500 girls and 2,000 people living within the vicinity.
Project description
IMPACT Bangladesh would construct and manage a SIDKO Water Treatment Plant at a girls' school in Chuadanga, providing safe, clean water to the school and local community. These plants can remove arsenic, iron, and bacterial contaminants from 280 litres of water per hour. Arsenic, a major health hazard in Bangladesh, affects up to 20 million people and is undetectable by taste, smell, or sight, leading to severe health issues like skin lesions, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Arsenicosis sufferers often face social discrimination due to misconceptions about its contagiousness or divine punishment. The SIDKO Water Treatment Plants stainless steel tanks and filters ensure durability and longevity of up to 20 years, while also removing iron and bacterial contaminants and keeping water cool in hot climates.
IMPACT Bangladesh has successfully installed SIDKO plants in schools in Chuadanga and Meherpur. This project targets schools within a community with many households headed by females or including disabled members, ensuring the most vulnerable benefit. Access to safe water will reduce waterborne diseases, improve overall health, and enhance economic productivity, offering significant health, social, and economic benefits by addressing arsenic contamination in Bangladesh.
