Project aims
The broad aim of the project is to enhance awareness, diagnosis, and treatment of Sickle Cell Disease. Through community engagement, healthcare capacity building, and specialized treatment services, the project seeks to improve health outcomes and quality of life for affected individuals.
Project description
The project aims to address the pressing health challenges posed by Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in the Western and Nyanza regions of Kenya. This comprehensive initiative encompasses multifaceted strategies to raise awareness, improve diagnosis, and enhance treatment access for individuals affected by SCD.
Through community engagement efforts, the project will conduct targeted awareness campaigns to educate local populations about SCD, its symptoms, risk factors, and available treatment options. These campaigns will utilize various communication channels, including community meetings, radio broadcasts, and educational workshops, to reach a wide audience and dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding the disease.
In parallel, the project will focus on capacity building for healthcare providers, offering training programs and resources to enhance their knowledge and skills in diagnosing and managing SCD. This includes workshops, seminars, and continuing education initiatives aimed at promoting best practices in SCD care and improving patient outcomes.
Additionally, the project will collaborate with local healthcare facilities to establish specialized treatment centers dedicated to SCD care. These centers will offer comprehensive services, including diagnosis, medical management, psychosocial support, and genetic counseling, tailored to the unique needs of individuals living with SCD and their families.
