Project aims
Small Bricks Project supports vulnerable children through their journey to improve their oral health. We create special rewards from donated Lego bricks and use them as an incentive to engage young patients referred to Community Dental Clinics across Wales.
Project description
Small Bricks Project is charity founded by a community dentist in Wales. The Community Dental Service (CDS) in Wales is a salaried service (not high street practices) providing NHS dental care to a wide range of vulnerable patients (learning and physical disabilities, medically compromised, mental health problems, autism etc).
Our charity focuses on supporting children referred to the CDS for extensive dental treatment. Small Bricks Project has created a loyalty card and stamp game, where children receive a reward at the end of their treatment, custom made from used (donated) lego bricks.
Our impact has been significant since the project started and we have slowly expanded to support children patients in 17 community dental clinics across Wales. Small Bricks Project provides all its resources at no cost to collaborating dentists from Tenby to Wrexham, and from Aberystwyth to Newport! We have presented our work to 2 dental conferences (British Dental Association CDS Group Conference & British Society of Paediatric Dentistry Annual Scientific Conference) and have registered interest from multiple centres and children hospitals to start using our project. Small Bricks Project has constructed and shared more than 1000 free minibuilds to date.
We kindly ask to consider supporting our project to evolve and expand in a sustainable way.
