Project aims
The Big Plastic Count campaign (TBPC) is the biggest investigation into UK household plastic waste. We want to continue our successful plastic pollution campaign, but collaborate more with our partners who work with communities usually excluded from discussions around climate.
Project description
At every stage of its lifecycle, plastic has an impact on the climate emergency. Raising awareness about the plastic problem provides an accessible entry point to communicate the connection between the plastics and climate crises, and the urgency of addressing them as an intersectional issue.
We want to build on the momentum and success of our campaign by running TBPC in parallel with a programme that aims to broaden its reach and inclusivity. We will deliver this work with our established cross-sector partnerships with Global Learning London (GLL) and Disability Rights UK (DRUK) and by actively involving communities that more accurately represent the UK population to co-produce and implement TBPC. Our key communities of interest for this work are disabled people, racialised communities, and young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds – communities who are often excluded from discussions around climate action, as well as disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis. With a diverse, regional spread of participants from schools and communities, we can highlight the intersectional exclusion in climate action discussions through lived experiences.
