Project aims
To improve the quality of life of women, children and adolescent girls by animating communities through participation and empowerment and facilitating to reduce the burden of their health, social and economic problems.
Project description
Rationale for this Intervention:
The condition of Maternal and child nutrition in particular is not encouraging. According to NFHS 5, a little less than half of children (41.3%) under age five in rural Uttar Pradesh were stunted, 17% were wasted; 7% were severely wasted and 33% were underweight. Despite past efforts, Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) indicators point to significant gaps in recommended and actual feeding practices. This could be attributed to low levels of timely initiation of breastfeeding (24%), exclusive breastfeeding among infants 0-5 months (60%), and lack of an acceptable diet. Economic and equity factors further exacerbate the situation. Staffing shortages and systemic issues in ICDS and the Health departments further contribute to the issues in delivery of nutrition counseling services in UP.
Objectives of the Project:
1. To improve health status of women, children and adolescent girls from vulnerable communities through strengthening Village Health Sanitation & Nutrition Day (VHSND).
2. To provide basic health needs of vulnerable groups through Screening-cum-Health Camps and enabling them to access healthcare and social protection services.
3. To educate adolescent girls and women about their reproductive health and hygiene so that they can lead healthy reproductive lives.
