Project aims
To co-create film telling the Untold Realities of Poverty in UK. This film is an integral part of a 2-year campaign “Poverty Is a Human Rights Issues”, providing an opportunity to those with direct experience to speak out about poverty.
Project description
As part of the narrative change process of our campaign, a series of blogs “The Untold Realities of Poverty in the UK” have been collected to raise awareness of issues, encouraging readers to understand experiences of poverty and how it is generated. These blogs, written by those with lived experience, also highlight the great contributions, which often go un-noticed within wider society and celebrate the authors as people who overcome adversity through their continued commitment to defending human rights and activism every day.
We wish to bring together the 10 authors/activists to co-create a film based on the blogs. Two facilitated workshops will draw out the shared experiences of poverty that is caused by political decision and build a story of solidarity. A storyboard for the film will be developed – taking elements from each story so that they are retold by other authors so as to counter divides to create one shared narrative of poverty as a human rights issue in the UK.
We will come together for one day filming. Contracted film maker will complete final film edit for launch on 17th October, International Day to End Poverty. This event will bring together lived and learnt experience activists from both the anti-poverty movements and human rights movements, alongside policy makers, for a dialogue based on the film’s stories.
