Project aims
The Victoria Community Centre is a collaborative community-based project with the aim of providing accessible and appropriate community spaces, services, and opportunities to people from refugee and migrant backgrounds in Athens.
Project description
The Victoria Community Centre (VCC) was established in 2022 as a response to an identified need for community spaces supporting people from refugee and migrant backgrounds to navigate the complex, uncertain and changing needs in Athens. Serving over 200 daily visitors, the centre offers a wide range of services through specialist NGO partners, including legal, mental health, medical, housing, educational, and social services. The centre provides a crucial lifeline to individuals and families experiencing displacement, often lacking access to public services or the job market while their asylum claims are pending. It provides a safe and secure environment where vulnerable individuals can access the services they need, enjoy a hot meal, use WiFi, and relax in a welcoming and friendly space. By connecting vulnerable populations to essential services, the VCC prevents them from falling through the cracks and helps them gain the confidence, skills, and knowledge needed to build a new life. It stands out as the only place in Athens offering such a comprehensive array of support, attracting diverse individuals from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds. This inclusive approach ensures that the broad spectrum of needs within the refugee and asylum-seeker population is met.
