Project aims
Develop an updated live, interactive data dashboard revealing levels of child vulnerability in England, alongside the publication of an annual Child Vulnerability Report summarising the issues facing vulnerable children. Data will also be made available via an app.
Project description
The Vulnerability Index will provide an updated definition of vulnerability, agreed in consultation with practitioners, political stakeholders, policy makers and children and young people and regularly estimate the scale of vulnerability including local authority data. The Index will provide policymakers, national and local government officials, politicians, campaigners, charities and journalists with an exhaustive, up to date data tool to inform policy development and spending priorities and improve national/local decision-making around programmes and support for families and children. By drawing media attention to the challenges facing vulnerable children and young people (we plan to launch the Index, and subsequent annual report with media support), we hope to encourage national and local governments to solve long-standing, generational challenges affecting vulnerable children. The overriding mission of the Vulnerability Index is to encourage early identification and early intervention to cut high costs of late intervention/crisis spending.
