Project aims
Our project aims to illuminate the enduring connection between Palestinians and their territory. Through an exploration of traditional agricultural structures known as "Manateer" (watchtowers), we seek to celebrate Palestinian heritage and resilience.
Project description
Manateer served as temporary shelters for farmers during harvest and planting seasons. They were hubs of activity, where families gathered to celebrate their agricultural traditions and assert their connection to their homeland. Through artistic interventions, we aim to revive memories and communal practices associated with these structures, engaging families, youth, and children in the process.
Our research delves into the architectural styles and functions of Manateer, as well as the social dynamics of agricultural life. We explore traditional farming techniques, water harvesting methods, and communal activities that sustained Palestinian communities. .
Through artistic interventions, including installations, exhibitions, and digital productions, we aim to raise awareness about the significance of Manateer and the threatened agricultural landscapes they represent. By inviting Palestinian artists to contribute to this project, we hope to spark dialogue about subsistence and autonomy while exploring the possibilities of preservation for this vital aspect of Palestinian heritage for future generations. Our project also includes guided tours/hikes and roundtables, fostering connections between participants and the landscapes they inhabit.
