Project aims
We’re a training co-operative of practitioners from the fields of community/union organising, trauma-informed strength and movement, care work, growing, art and more. We focus on the critical importance of healing and wellbeing to the sustainability of social change work.
Project description
Inspired by the US-based Highlander School, we’re a co-operative training consortium offering services in a mixture of mediums. We want to share a holistic approach to collective care and health for change-makers, connecting with nature and each other, and eventually establish our own centre. We offer: Workshops, courses and resources on long-term collective care, including trauma-informed strength training, and accessible fitness classes for specific populations such as the trans community; Workshops on organising strategy - workers' rights, community, single/multi-issue campaigns; Training in non-violent communication, and climate awareness; Tools to support change-makers, including those with long-term chronic conditions and disabilities, in caring for themselves sustainably, using accessible language and concepts familiar from their practices; Small-scale agricultural training and space for cultural celebration. We’re planning an open-access Spring workshop day, to showcase our services to the public and specific target communities, and another in the Autumn. We aim to develop our social media presence, our outreach, and our fundraising capacities, including undergoing in-house training. We are asking for £8000 to go towards staff time for better social media scheduling and engagement, design/production of fundraising merchandise, networking with potential clients, and administrative tasks as we currently do our own bookkeeping and accounting.
