Project aims
The objective of the project is to create enabling environment and opportunities for HIV-affected, low socio-economic class women in the slums of Kisumu, Kenya through entrepreneurship.
Project description
In Kenya Women represent 60.6% of all adults of 15 and over diagnosed with the HIV. The increasing number of widows and orphans resulting from the high number of HIV/AIDS cases has significantly increased both women's workload and their financial responsibilities and has impacted their ability to contribute to economic life in Kenya.1 As a response to this increasingly urgent problem in the region, Kar Geno launched the Hope Designers program in 2016 and has been running it since with main objective to train women into tailoring and prepare them for business & employment to more economically and socially disadvantaged women who in turn will have positive spill-over effects on their families and communities they live in. We are therefore seeking financial support to enable us purchase sewing machines for training the ever growing number of participants. Beneficiaries will receive a tailor's profession with practical experience; business training & access to loans upon graduation.
