Limit the intake of processed foods, sugars, and refined carbohydrates. Regular Exercise: Physical activity helps in weight management and improves insulin sensitivity. Both aerobic exercise and strength training are beneficial for women with PCOS. Weight Management: For overweight or obese women with PCOS, achieving and maintaining a healthy weight can significantly improve symptoms. Even a modest weight loss of 5-10% can have positive effects. Medical Interventions: Birth control pills can regulate menstrual cycles, reduce androgen levels, and help manage symptoms like acne and hirsutism. Anti-Androgen Medications: Drugs like spironolactone may be prescribed to reduce the effects of androgens, addressing symptoms such as acne and excess hair growth. Insulin-Sensitizing Medications: Metformin is often prescribed to improve insulin sensitivity, which can help regulate menstrual cycles and reduce the risk of diabetes.
