Project description
Production Dates: 10th October - 30th November 2024 Location: Lyric Theatre Belfast, Belfast International Arts Festival "Yerma" is an adaptation of Federico García Lorca's classic play, addressing critical issues of gender inequality and workplace discrimination, particularly towards mothers and pregnant women in Northern Ireland. Directed by Patrick J. O'Reilly, the production incorporates innovative multimedia elements to create an immersive, thought-provoking experience. The project aims to raise awareness and provoke discussions on these vital topics, contributing to a more just and equitable society. It includes: Community Workshops: Conducted in collaboration with rights groups like Pregnant Then Screwed and Melted Parents NI, focusing on advocacy, empowerment, and practical steps to combat workplace discrimination. Panel Discussions: Featuring prominent women speakers such as Kate Livingstone (MLA) and Amanda Ferguson (Journalist), to provide insights and foster community dialogue. Horizontal Management Structure: Ensures all ideas are valued equally, fostering creativity and collaboration. By involving community groups like Barnardo’s Elevate Women’s Group and Skainos Women’s Group, "Yerma" will engage and empower women, providing them with the tools and knowledge to challenge discrimination effectively. This project aligns with Tinderbox Theatre Company's mission to produce high-quality, socially relevant theatre that makes a lasting impact on the community.
